Libolon scores recycling first for Taiwan

Textile manufacturer Libolon has become the first company in Taiwan to receive the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) certificate from Netherlands-based certification body Peterson Control Union for recycled polyester.
The GRS is for companies that ask for independent verification of their own claims as to the amount of recycled material they use in a specific set of products. In Libolon’s case, the product that came under scrutiny was the company’s RePET polyester.
RePET material comes from 100% recycled bottles and the whole process, including waste water treatment and chemical usage, meets the standards of Oekotex 100. The chips and yarn are made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester.
Libolon has said that a global thirst for greener products is pushing up demand for RePET. In 2009, orders for RePET yarns reached 1,323 tonnes, while Libolon clients also ordered 1.5 million metres of finished RePET polyester fabric.
The manufacturer said on announcing the news that GRS certification meant it could give its downstream customers the world over a guarantee that the RePET products they purchase are “100% green”.
