Nylon Filament
Nylon Filament
- Nylon Filament Yarn Part 1Nylon filament yarn, it means some fines threads made of nylon polymer assemble together to be a form of a continuous yarn, limited in length only its spool, and not cut to length. A nylon filament yarn is a thin string made from a single yarn.
What Is Nylon Filament Yarn
How to produce nylon filament yarn? Let’s learn the term of “cold drawing”. When the nylon filament yarn pulling on nylon fibers, and stretch for a while, but then, after the fibers have stretched so far, the fibers get very strong and resist being stretched any further. Once the fibers have been stretched, or drawn, they are strong enough to use to make things like textiles and rope. Both polyester and nylon can be cold drawn like this to make strong fibers. In fact, cold drawing of the nylon filament yarn was discovered by Julian Hill in 1930.
Cold-draws A Nylon Filament
When we cold-draws a real nylon filament, the filament is easy to stretch. But once it has been stretched to the point where that thick middle part of the filament has all been exhausted.
1、 The nylon polymer molecules in the thick part of the nylon filament yarn is in a condition of amorphous and tangled up randomly. This part of filament is not very strong and stretches easily.
2、 The nylon polymer molecules in the thin part of the nylon filament yarn is oriented and stretching out l ong and straight. This part of filament is very strong and resists stretching.
Please see the picture below.

How The Nylon Filament Yarn Works
The nylon filament yarn is basic on cold-drawing. When the polymer chains are stretched out long and straight, they can then form crystals. This means the polymer chains are arranged in an orderly manner. They stay in this orderly manner because they are held together by strong hydrogen bonds between the amide groups in the nylon filament chains. Because nylon filament molecules are held tightly together, they can no longer stretch or deform easily.
